Our tip for the whole family
Spend a day together on the elaborately designed themed hiking trails, which you can access easily with the hiking bus. These varied themed hikes combine hiking, learning and fun together and are an especially great way for children to gain new insights and enjoy learning experiences during their summer holiday in Zillertal.
Hiking on the Zillertaler Höhenstraße
Our “Höhenstraße” alpine road was originally built in the early 1960s as a service road for farmers to help them manage their alpine pastures and improve access for building river barriers to prevent the frequent flooding that occurred in this area. Word soon spread about the stunning panoramic views of the Zillertal Alps that could be enjoyed from this road and, in the late 1960s, the simple dirt track was opened to the general public. Since the opening of the Hirschbichlalm guest house in 1973, music has also played a key role in attracting visitors to this road.
Best of all, the Zillertaler Höhenstraße is the perfect place for a hiking tour starting from the Breierhof farm.
Zillertal Arena hiking area
You can enjoy wonderful hikes to the alpine pasture in the Rosenalm, Kreuzjoch, Isskogel and Wilden Krimml areas, which, by the way, are still part of the grassy slopes of the Kitzbühel Alps.
The side valleys of Schwarzachtal, Wimmertal, Schönachtal, Wildgerlostal, Krummbachtal and the Krimmler Achental are sure to be a special highlight. In each of these valleys, a cosy mountain hut serving refreshments awaits hikers after about just one hour into the hike.
